 "Companions of the Prophet Muhammad SAW": 



The companion of the Prophet Muhammad SAW known as Sahaba, were individuals who had personal contact with him, witnessed his actions, and learned from him. They include those who emigrated with him from Makkah to Madina ( Mahajireen), the Medinan helpers (Ansar) and those who fought alongside him in battles like Badr ( Badriyyun). These close followers are reversed in Islam for their dedication, faith, and role in preserving and transmitting the Prophet's teachings. The first four caliph( Abu Bakar, Hazrat Umar, Hazrat Usman, Hazrat Ali) are particularly esteemed among Sunni Muslims and we're among the ten companions promised paradise by the Prophet Muhammad SAW.

History of companions:

The companions, known as " Sahabah", had the distinct privilege of being in the company of the Prophet Muhammad SAW during his lifetime. They included family members, close friends early converts and staunch supporters of the nascent Islamic community.

Role did the companions of the Prophet Muhammad SAW saw play:

The companion were the Muslim discipline and followers of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad SAW who saw or met him during his lifetime. The companions played a major role in Muslim battles, society, Hadith narration, and governance during and after the life of Prophet Muhammad SAW.

The Prophet Muhammad SAW said: " The best people are those living in my generation, and then those who will follow them, and then those who will follow the latter.

Greatest companion of the Prophet Muhammad SAW:

And Allah ibn Abi Quhafa better known by his kunya Hazrat Abu Bakar was a senior companion, the closest friend, and father-in-law of Hazrat Muhammad SAW. He served as the fist caliph of the Rashidun Caliphate , ruling from 632 until his death in 634. Hazrat Abu Bakar was granted the honorific title al-Siddique.

Why Sahabas important to Islam:

The Sahaba ( the companion) of Prophet Muhammad SAW as the first interlocutors if Islam, have an important place in the formation and shaping of Islamic culture and civilization which has its own characteristics by means of their understanding of religion, and living and spreading it.

Last companion of the Prophet Muhammad SAW:

Abu al-Tufayl Amir ibn Wathila al-Kinani romanized Abu al-Tufayl Amir ibn Wathila Al Kinani (thood 5-732) was a poet and one of the companions of the Islamic Prophet . Last surviving companion of the Prophet Muhammad SAW.

Best friend of Prophet Muhammad SAW:

Hazrat Abu Bakar was the best friend of Hazrat Muhammad SAW. He was the first to embrace Islam and earned the title " Siddique" for his powerful Faith.

Qualities of the Sahaba:

The Sahaba had six outstanding qualities including strong Faith in the Kalma, performing salat properly, seeking Islamic knowledge and implementing it through zikr, showing kindness to other Muslims and prioritizing the needs of others over their own needs.

According to Muhammad's SAW wife Hazrat Ayesha, he saw Hazrat Jibrael twice in the form that he was created " and on other occasions as a man resembling Dihya ibn Khalifa al-Kalbi, an extraordinarily handsome disciple of Muhammad SAW.

Richest companion of the Prophet Muhammad SAW:

Abdul Rehman bin Auf (عبد الرحمن بن عوف) born And Amr ibn Awf was one of the companions of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad SAW. One of the wealthiest among the companions, he is known for being one of  the ten to whom Paradise was promised.

His Shabana (R.A) engaged themselves in different economic activities, trading, agriculture,dairy farming, gardening, crafting, gold smithing, carpentry, tailoring and laboring etc.

  • He came from a wealthy family in the Banu Taim tribe.
  • His mother was Salma bin Sakhar and his father was Usman.
  • His pagan name was Abdul Kabah. When he converted to Islam, he changes it to Abdullah.

  • He converted the moment Prophet Muhammad SAW relayed to him.the events of Cave Hira without hesitation.

  • Even before Islam, he was modest, honest and upright and avoided drinking and gambling.

  • When returning from a journey, he saw a dream about the Prophet Muhammad SAW.
  • When he relayed this to Abu Bakar, he was convinced to convert.
  • Due to this, he wa wrapped in palm leaves and a fire was set under him by his uncle.
  • Services for Islam:
  • He was one of the people who migrated to Abyssinia.
  • During the boycott, he ensured that Muslims were provided with supplies.
  • He bought a well from a jew for 20,000 Dirham and allowed Muslims to use it.
  • He provides money for the extension of Masjid e Nabawi after the treaty of Hudaibiyah.
  • He bought and freed many slaves.
  • He took part in all battles except for the battle of Badr.
  • He did not attend Base due to the critical condition of his wife.

  • When he learned what they were doing, he converted.
  • He announced it openly when the Prophet Muhammad SAW preached to kindred

Hazrat Talha bin Ubaidullah:

  • Titles:
  • The Holy Prophet Muhammad SAW was so pleased by hua generosity that he was given the title is "Jawwad" and "Fayyaz".
  • Al Qarreenayn- he was once bound with a rope to Abu Bakar by Nawfal ibn Khuwaylid.
  • He was known as the living martyr.
  • During the battle of Uhud, he became the Prophet's human shield, and was so wounded that he became unconscious.
  • Background:
  • Hazrat Talha was born in Makkah. He belonged to Banu Tamim, a subtribe of Quraish. He was the grand nephew of Hazrat Abu Bakar.
  • He learnt reading and writing at an early age and learnt the art of oratory and used to deliver speeches at the famous fair of Ukkaz, which was annually held at Makkah. When he grew up, like other Makkans, he became a merchant.
  • Conversion:
  • When he was 17 years of age, he accepted Islam on the invitation if Hazrat Abu Bakar.
  • Services for Islam:
  • Even tough his older brother tortures him and he suffered the social boycott of the Quraish he did not renounce Islam.
  • He protected the Prophet's family during migration.
  • He was a devoted companion who migrated to Madina for the cause of Islam.
  • He was bound by a rope with Abu Bakar by Nawfal, due to which he was known as Al Qarrenagu.
  • He fought in all the battles except for the battle of Badr:
  • During the battle of badar, he was sent, along with Hazrat Saeed bin Zaid, to spy on the Quraish caravan.
  • During the battle of Uhud, he protected the Holy Prophet Muhammad SAW and even deflected a sword aimed towards him with hua hand. It was during this that he fell unconscious and was given the title " the living Marty".
  • He was present at the treaty of Hudaibiyah.
  • His income was 1000 dinar a day and he loved to spend it in the way of Allah SWT, spending lavishly on the poor, needy and relative. He was extremely hospitable.
  • During the Caliphs of Hazrat Abu Bakar and Hazrat Umar, he was a part of the advisory council.
  • He was one of the people who demanded from Hazrat Ali that Hazrat Usman be avenged.
  • Death:
  • He was injured with a poisonous arrow in the battle of the camel after he withdraw from it 
  • The injury proves fatal, causing him to pass away at the age of 64.

Hazrat Zubair:

  • Background:
  • He was born in Makkah in 570 AD. He belonged in Banu Asad. He was a cousin of the Prophet and the nephew of Hazrat Khadija Tul Kubra.
  • His father was Awwam and mother was Safiya. She made him suffer a lot of hardships, which made him very brave and confident.
  • He learned the art of fighting at an early age and grew up to become a merchant, living a pious life even before joining Islam.
  • Conversion:
  • He was an early convert. He was an intimate friend of Abu Bakar, who invited him to Islam. He accepted and became a Muslim at the age of 16. 
  • Services of Islam:
  • Despite facing torture ( his uncle wrapped him in date leaves and set him on fire) he did not give up his faith.
  • He willingly joined the  Prophet Muhammad SAW during the social boycott, but when the Quraishi persecution crossed all limits he migrated to Abyssinia in 615 AD and later to Madina.
  • In Madina, he farmed and participated in business. He was married to Hazrat Asma, the oldest daughter of Abu Bakar.
  • He fought at Badr, Uhud and trench, showing such great bravery at Badr that they day of Badr is called the day of Zubair.
  • He was amongst the leaders of the Muslim force during the conquest of Makkah.
  • He was present at the treaty of Hudaibiyah.
  • He was a great supporter of the first three caliphs and assisted them in all matters.
  • He led a small army of Muslims against the apostate.
  • Hazrat Umar made him the leader of 4000 Muslim soldiers sent to Palestine.

  • He was selected as one of the 6 people who could succeed Hazrat Umar.

  • After he pulled out of the battle of the camel, he travelled away from the area and came to a stop to pray.

Hazrat Ubaidah bin Jarrah:

  • Title:
  • His real name was Amr.
  • He was given the title of Ameen up Ummat by the Prophet Muhammad SAW who said," He is the honest of my nation".
  • Background:
  • He was born in Makkah in 570 AD and belonged to Banu Fahra, a branch of the Quraish his real name was Amr.
  • His father , Abdullah did not accept Islam, but his mother did 
  • Conversion:
  • He was an intimate friend of Abu Bakar, who invited him to embrace Islam at the age of 29. He was one of the earliest converts, converting only a day after Hazrat Abu Bakar.
  • Services for Islam:
  • Even though he faces lots of torture, he did not turn away from the cause of  Islam.
  • He eventually migrated to Abyssinia to avoid the Quraishi persecution.
  • He was an excellent advisor of the Holy Prophet who participated in the battles of badr and Uhud.
  • During the. Battles of Uhud, he had to kill his own father, who was fighting on the Quraishi's side.
  • When the Holy Prophet Muhammad SAW was injured in the battles if Uhud, two rings of armour got stuck in his cheek. Hazrat Ubaidah pulled those rings out losing his two front teeth in the process.
  • He was a witness at the treaty of Hudaibiyah.
  • He was a leader during the conquest of Makkah.
  • He led a number of expeditions dyeing the lifetime of the Holy Prophet Muhammad SAW. In 9 AH he was sent to Najran to preach to them and decide their cases.
  • After the life of the Prophet,he played a key role in  electing Hazrat Abu Bakar as the first caliph an also was very important in the crushing id the apostasy movement.
  • He was appointed as the commander of the Muslim army in Syria and Palestine. He later successfully defeated the Roman army and conquered Damascus during the time of Hazrat Umar.
  • Death:
  • He fell victim to deadly plague, losing his life to it in 639 AD. He chose not to return in order to prevent from spreading it 
  • Importance:
  • He was one of the greatest general of Islam who played a key role in conquering Syria.

Hazrat Abdur Rehman bin Awf:

  • Background:
  • He was born in Makkah in 580 AD. And belonged to Banu Zahra, a subtribe of the Quraish.
  • He grew up to become one of the greatest merchants of Makkah. Despite this, he led a simple life 
  • Conversion:
  • Hazrat Abu Bakar convinced him to become an early convert to Islam.
  • Services to Islam:
  • He faces persecution and migrates to Abyssinia in 615 AD.
  • He was paired with Saad Ibn Rabi at Mawakat.
  • He shared a caravan with Abu Bakar and Hazrat Umar at Badr.
  • He suffered 21 injuries at Uhud.
  • He accompanied the Prophet Muhammad SAW when he visited Hazrat Ibrahim during his last moment and consoled him after hua death.
  • After the Holy Prophet's Demise who looked after the mother's of the faithful.
  • He was very generous.
  • He once distributed 700 camels laden with edibles amongst the poor Muslims.
  • He was an important figure during the first three caliphates, and was a trusted member of the advisory council.
  • He played an active role in electing Hazrat Usman as the third caliph.

Hazrat Saad bin Abi Waqas:

  • Background:
  • He was from Banu Zahra, and was a cousin of Bibi Aminah. He was the uncle of the Prophet Muhammad SAW.
  • He learnt reading and writing at an early age.
  • He also mattered the art of archery.
  • Conversion:
  • He was one of the first to accept Islam on the preaching of Hazrat Abu Bakar at the age of 17.
  • Services of Islam:
  • After accepting Islam, his mother confronted him over his decision and he also underwent persecution. However, de did not change his mind.
  • He was the first Muslim to shoot an arrow in support of Islam during a conflict which arose since the Quraish were interrupting prayer.
  • He shed his blood when they were attack while traveling to Makkah.
  • He participated in all major battles 
  • Dyeing the time of Uhud, he was one of the defenders of the Prophet Muhammad SAW.
  • He was declared one of the best archers.
  • During the caliphate of Hazrat Umar, he was made a general is the army and fought against the Persian.
  • He was appointed governor of Kufah and Najid.
  • He introduced Islam to China dyeing Hazrat Usman's caliphate 
  • He was a part of the 6- man council to select Hazrat Umar's successor.
  • Death:
  • He spent the last years of his life in Madina, where he died in 55 AH .
  • When he was nearing death, he told his son to shroud him in a woolen jubbah which he had kept in a box. He had worn it during the battle of badr 

Hazrat Saeed bin Zaid:

  • Background:
  • He belonged to the Banu Addi tribe 
  • He was the son of Zaid bin Amr, who reportedly followed Hazrat Ibrahim and paternal cousin of Hazrat Umsar.
  • His father was the only person in a Makkah who did not believe in idols, ana went from place to place in search of the true religion but passed away before Islam.
  • He married Hazrat Fatima the sister of Hazrat Umar.
  • Conversion:
  • He was one of the earliest converts and was only 15 years of age when he accepted Islam. At first, he hid his conversion.
  • Services of Islam:
  • He participated in a number of battles and fought bravely.
  • During the battle of badr, he was sent as a spy.
  • He was present at the occasion of pledge of the tree.
  • He led a small battalion of the Muslim army during the conquest of Makkah.
  • He migrated to Madina along with his wife in 622 AD. Where he was a great help to the Holy Prophet Muhammad SAW.
  • He supported the Caliphs:.
  • He was appointed governor of Damascus but resigned due to his love for Jihad .
  • He was made leader of the infantry by Hazrat Umar during the conquest of Syria 
  • He later fought fought as an ordained soldier.
  • Death:
  • In 670/49 AD.

Hazrat Khalid bin Waleed:

  • Titles:
  • Sword of Allah SWT.
  • Background:
  • His father was one of the most powerful, rich and well-respected men of the Quraishi.
  • Due to his father's wealth, he was able to learn horsemanship, swordsmanship and archery 
  • He belonged to the Quraish tribe, and prior to his conversion was one of the bitterest enemies of Islam. He saves the Quraish during the battle of Uhud by commanding a cavalry charge when he noticed the archers has a condones .
  • He was a leader of a Quraishs battalion during the battle of the trench which attacked the Prophet for so long that he was forces to miss prayer.
  • Conversion:
  • He converted in 8AH.
  • Events:
  • In the battle of mouah,he saved the Muslims from defeat at the hands of the romans by restoring to strategic withdrawal.
  • It was during this battle that he earned the title sword of Allah.
  • During the conquest of Makkah, he was one of the four commanders who led the army.
  • During the time of the Caliphs he was instrumental in capturing large chunks of Roman and Persian territories.
  • In the war of apostasy, his performance was extraordinary outstanding, and hw was in charge of the armies against Tulayha, Malik bin Nuwaryah and Musiama .
  • He won several Victories against the Persians In Iraq and later in Syria.
  • When he was relieved from command by caliph Hazrat Umar, he exhibited exemplary behavior, telling his successor that it made no difference if he was fighting in command kr as a soldier as long as he was fighting for Allah paak.
  • Death:
  • He passed away in 21 AH due to an illness, though he strongly desired to be martyred in battle.
  • Importance:
  • Many of the military victories won by Muslims would have been lost without him. He was a brilliant military strategist.

Abu Sufiyan:

  • Background:
  • His real name was Sakhr.
  • He belonged to the Banu Ummayah tribe, an important offshoot of the Quraish clan.
  • He was a rich trades of Makkah and enjoyed an influential position amongst Quraish and distant places like Gaza, which he traded with 
  • It was his caravan's defence that triggered the battle of Badr.
  • Family:
  • His father's name was Harab.
  • His son, Hazrat Ameer Muawiya first became governor of Syria, then a caliph.
  • One of his daughters, Hazrat Umm Habibah Ramalah, was the life of the Holy Prophet Muhammad SAW.
  • His wife, hind Utaba took revenge for her father's death during the battle if Badr by chewing Hazrat Hamza's lover during the Battle of Uhud.
  • From the 40th to 60th year id the Prophet's Muhammad SAW life, Abu Sufiyan was his sworn enemy.
  • This was primarily due to the fact that the Holy Prophet's clan, Banu Hashim had replaced Abu Sufyan's father and grandfather from the leadership of Makkah.
  • Furthermore, his daughter married that Holy Prophet Muhammad SAW after she emigrated from Makkah to Abyssinia.
  • Unlike the other Chieftains id Makkah, he was a man if cool and calm composed temperament who rarely exhibited violent hostility. Otherwise however, he was doing everything conceivable against the Prophet Muhammad SAW and Islam including:
  • He was indirectly responsible for the battle of Badr.
  • He commanded the Makkan armies during the battles of Uhud and the trench.
  • He signed the treaty of Hudaibiyah.
  • Conversion:
  • The night before the conquest of Makkah, Abi Sufyan visited Muhammad's camp offered his conversion. This was foreshadowed by the fact that, when he was unable to present any negative qualities about Islam when asked about the matter by the emperor if Byzantine.
  • Services of Islam:
  • Following his conversion, he remained loyal and faithful follower of Islam.
  • Abu Sufyan actively participated in the Tsif expedition following the conquest of Makkah.
  • During the wave of apostasy complete tranquility prevailed over Hijaz. Though the situation could have been exploited by him if he had any hostility towards Islam he did not do so.
  • During the caliphate of Hazrat Abu Bakar,he remained governor of Najran and Hijaz.
  • Death:
  • He died at the age of 88 in 31AH.

Hazrat Salman bin Farsi:

  • Title:
  • When asked about his linage, he said that he was Salman bin Al- Islam.
  • Background:
  • He was born in a small village in Persia.
  • His father was a prominent merchant and a highly devotes and committed follower of Zoroastrianism.
