"Love for Prophet Muhammad SAW:

Muhammad SAW was the founder of Islam and the proclaimer of the Quran Kareem, Islam's sacred scripture. He spent his entire life in what is now the country of Saudi Arabia from his birth about 570 CE in Makkah to his death in 632 in Madina.
The love of Allah SWT and hua Messenger was so much that he guarantee forgiveness and Mercy for Those whom his Messenger is interceding for. One of the things I really yearn for is to have love for our messenger as the love his companions may Allah Almighty be pleased with them had for him.

How do you express your love for Prophet Muhammad SAW:

Allah SWT has commanded those that believe to make this prayer and remember the Prophet Muhammad SAW. Doing so will give us ajr and it will also help us remember what kind of struggles and hardships he faced in order to bring the message of Islam to us.

The love of the Prophet Muhammad SAW Hadith:

Ana's ibn Malik reported: The Messenger of Allah SWT, said:
" None of you have faith until I am more beloved to him that his children, his father, and all of the people."

Why do we love Prophet Muhammad SAW:

He was the kindest and most Merciful of mankind. The Messenger of Allah SWT did the greatest of favour to all of mankind. Not the slightest good came to them and not the slightest harm was wardes off from them except through him.

How did the Prophet Muhammad SAW fall in love:

Once Hazrat Ayesha RA asked why he loved her so deeply. The Prophet Muhammad SAW replies: " she believed in me when no one else did; she accepted Islam when people rejected me; and she helped and comforted me when there was no one else to lend me a helping hand".
The moral lesson of the life of the Prophet Muhammad SAW:
" Give charity without delay, for us stands in the way of calamity." The Prophet Muhammad SAW has always taken care of the people in need; he kept giving charity to poor people and the ones in need. Whether food, money clothes or whatever they need.

Best quote about love from  the Prophet Muhammad SAW:

Let there be spaces in your togetherness, and let the winds of the heavens dance between you. Love one another but make not a bond of love: let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.

What did Muhammad SAW say about love:

She asked the prophet Muhammad SAW how he would describes his love for her, the prophet Muhammad SAW answered, saying:
" Like a strong binding knot." The more you tug, the stronger it gets, in other words.

Prophet Muhammad SAW famous quotes:

  • Fees the hungry and visit a sick person, and free the captive, if he be unjustly confined.
  • Seek knowledge from cradle to the grave.
  • No two things have been combined better than knowledge and patience.
  • The greatest of Richness is the richness of the soul.

Why is it important to love the Prophet Muhammad SAW:

One who loves and obeys the Prophet Muhammad SAW will be given divine favours, guidance and help. Moreover, the one who is attached and follows the Prophet Muhammad SAW is loved by Allah SWT. When Allah SWT is with you, will there be anyone or anything who can overcome you? The Prophet Muhammad SAW is the perfect role model.

Basic teachings of Muhammad SAW:

  • Profession of faith (shahada). The belief that " there is no God but God, and Muhammad SAW is the Messenger of Allah SWT is central to Islam.
  • Prayer ( salat).
  • Alms(Zakat).
  • Fasting ( sawm).
  • Pilgrimage ( Hajj).

Hadith about love and Mercy:

Another narration in Muslim is reported: by Salman Al-Farsi: Messenger of Allah SWT said, " Allah paak has hundred mercies, out of which one mercy is used by his creation for mutual love and affection. Ninety -nine mercies are kept for the day of resurrection."

How did Prophet Muhammad SAW show love:

Prophet Muhammad SAW beautifully expressed his affection through physical gesture, highlighting the significance of touch in nurturing love and  connection. Hazrat Aisha RA shared how the prophet Muhammad SAW would often lay his head in her lap white reciting the Quran Kareem, even during her menstruation.

Love for Prophet Muhammad SAW right perspective:

Muslims all over the world love Prophet Muhammad SAW dearly. He is respected not only amongst the Muslims but many non -Muslims have also extolled him for his extraordinary qualities and the Message he brought. But perhaps many are not aware of the fact that hua love for the Prophet Muhammad SAW is in fact that this love for the Prophet Muhammad SAW is in fact a necessary part of a Muslim's faith without which is very belief would be considered incomplete.

Requirement of faith:

Narrated Ana's: The prophet Muhammad SAW said:
None of you will have faith till he loves me more than his father, his children and all mankind."
Because of this love for the last Prophet Muhammad SAW was meant to be driving force for the believer to act upon each and every word and action of his beloved. This love was not meant to be the selfish, stagnant, self gratifying fairytale emotion portrayed in the media but one that would propel a believer into action and change him from within and without. This love had to be stronger than any other love, strong enough for a Muslim to sacrifice his family, his wealth, his life and his own desires for the sake of his beloved.
This very would not let the Muslims rest in peace until they had fulfilled the mission and conveyed the message that the Prophet Muhammad SAW had entrusted to them.
Then why is that we claim to love the Prophet Muhammad SAW yet this love has not brought about the same results in our lives?
Perhaps we need to know that kind of love we are supposed to have for the Prophet Muhammad SAW such an important matter- one that affects one's faith- necessities that this love should be the kind desired by Allah and his Messenger and not one based on each person's own imagination.

Signs of love for the Prophet Muhammad SAW:

Scholars have started certain signs of the Prophet Muhammad SAW love that can be summarized as follows:
  1. To have a strong desire to see and to be in the company of the Prophet Muhammad SAW.
  2. To be ever ready to sacrifice one's life and wealth for the Prophet Muhammad SAW.
  3. To obey what the Prophet Muhammad SAW commanded and abstain from what he forbade .
  4. To support and favour the Prophet's Sunnah and to defend the Shariah that was revealed to him.                                    There were certain expressions of love that the Prophet explicitly disapproved of. Muhammad SAW did not like that people should rise for him when he arrived.
Narrated Abu Ummah: The Apostle of Allah SWT came out to us leaning on a stick. We stood up to show respect to him.He said: Do not stand up as foreigners do for showing respect to one another.
Similarly Muhammad SAW discouraged poetry that bordered on Shirk and raised his status to that of Allah SWT or ever higher.
Narrated Ar-Rabi ( the daughter of Muawwih bin Afra) After the consummation of my marriage, the Prophet Muhammad SAW came and sat on my bed as far from me as you are sitting now, and out little girls started beating the tambourine and reciting elegiac verses mourning my father who had been killed in the battle of Badr. One of them said, " Among us is a Prophet who knows what will happen tomorrow."Leave this and keep on saying the verses which you had been saying before."
Prophet Muhammad SAW excessive and exaggerated praise.
He strongly condemned making his grave a place of worship or other deviant practices.
Aisha and Abdullah reported: As the Messenger of Allah SWT was about to breathe his last, he drew his sheet upon his face and said in that very state: Let there be curse upon the Jews and the Christian that they have taken the graves of their apostles as place of worship. He in fact warned against what they Jews and the Christian.
Sadly, we do all of the above things in the name of love, without realizing that the one whom we claim to love of ours be accepted to him ob the day of judgement.

Love means obedience:

Love means obedience and sacrifice. Allah SWT lays down the criteria of his love in the Quran Kareem: following the way of his Messenger.
" Say : If you do love Allah SWT, follow me: Allah will love you forgive you your sins, for Allah is Oft-Forgiving, most Merciful ".
Abu Hurarya transmits that the messenger of Allah SWT stated: "All of my followers will enter Paradise except those who have denied." He was asked" Whoever has obeyed me will enter Paradise. Whoever has disobeyed has denied .

The companions who know how to love:

These were the people who meant what they said and their actions bore witness to their claims. They proved that they loved the Prophet Muhammad SAW more than their fathers, their children, their  own selves and everything else. This was the first and beat generation of Muslims, whose actions are worth emulating.
Muhammad SAW lifetime, they expressed their love for the Prophet Muhammad SAW in the form of respectful adoration, unquestioning obedience and mirroring his actions. Whenever the need arose, they competed with each other to sacrifice whatever they could for Allah SWT and hua Prophet Muhammad SAW. Their love for the the Prophet means that even after he died, they aight guidance in his Muhammad's Sunnah. Most did not remain in Madina but spread out to the far corners of the earth to spread the message of the Prophet Muhammad SAW. Till their departure from this world, they served the cause of Islam in whatever capacity they could, as generals or ordinary soldiers, as Caliphs or advisors, as scribes preserving and compiling the Quran Kareem and Hadith, as students and teachers of knowledge, as victors and martyrs.
They could not tolerate even the slightest deviation of opposition to the Sunnah of the Messenger.

Hazrat Abu Bakar RA's love:

The Quraish of Makkah made a plot to murder the Holy Prophet Muhammad SAW. Allah had given the order for migration to Madina. At night, in the cover of darkness, the Prophet Muhammad SAW and Hazrat Abu Bakar left Makkah and arrived at a cave called Thaue where they decided to take refuge.
The shoes of Abu Bakar were worn out; some said he used to walk tiptoe in order not to leave a trail behind him. Abu Bakar RA first entered to explore the cave and be sure that it was safe, closed all holes with pieces torn off from his clothes, cleaned it and then asked the prophet Muhammad SAW to step in. The Prophet Muhammad SAW went in and immediately laid his head in Abu Bakar lap and fell asleep. Suddenly Bakar RA's door was stung by a  poisonous insect, but he did not stir or move despite the pain, fearing Muhammad SAW might wake up.

The human shield of Sahaba:

It was been reported on the authority of a Anas b. Malik that ( when the enemy got the upper hand) on the day of the battle of Uhud, the Messenger of Allah SWT was left with only seven men from men from the Ansar and two men from the Quraish. When the enemy advanced towards him and overwhelmed him, he said; whose turns them away from us will attain paradise will be my companion in paradise. A man from the Ansar came forward and fought until he was killed. The enemy advanced and overwhelmed him again and he repeated the words: Whoso turns them away, from us will attain paradise or will be my  companion in paradise. A man from the Ansar came forward and fought until he was killed. This state continued until the seven Ansar were killed. After the martyrdom of the seventy Ansari in Uhud, two Quraishis were left guarding the Prophet Muhammad SAW: Talha bin Ubaidullah and Sad bin Abi Waqas. These two Sahabas bravely fought the Quraish and used their own bodies as shields to protect Allah's messenger. Such was their love for him.
The Prophet Muhammad SAW was left with Talha bin Ubaidullah and Sad bin Abi Waqas for only a few seconds before other. Sahabas arrives to shield him.

We hear and we obey:

Abdul Aziz b. Suhaib reported:  They asked Ana's b. Malik about Fadikh whereupon he said: " there was no liquor with us except his Fadikih of yours. It was only this Fadikh that I had been serving to Abu Talha and Abu Ayyub and some persons from against the companions of the messenger of Allah SWT in our house. When a  person came and said: "Has the news reached you?" We said: "No . He said: " Verily liquor has been declared forbidden." Thereupon, Abu Talha said: " Ana's spill these large pitcher's. "He said: " They then never reverted to it, nor Even asked about this after the announcement by that person."

Spending for the sake of love:

When Allah's messenger announced the preparation of the battle of Tabuk and called for charities and donations, the Muslim's raced to spend for the sake of Allah SWT. Usman for instance who had prepared two hundred saddled camels to travel to Ash-Sham presented them all with two hundred ounces of gold as Charity. He also fetched a thousand dinars and cast them all into the lap of the messenger of Allah SWT, who turned them over and said: " From this day on nothing will harm' Usman regardless of what he does."
Again and again Usman gave till his charity reached nine hundred camels and s hundred horses , besides the money he paid.
Narrated umar ibn Al Khattab. The Apostle of Allah SWT commanded us one day to give Sadaqah. At that time, I had some property. I said: today I shall surpass Abu Bakar if I surpass him any day. I therefore bought half my property. The Apostle of Allah SWT asked: what did you leave for your family. I replied: the same amount. Abu Bakar brought all that he had with him. What did you leave for your family. He replied I left Allah and his apostle for them. I said: I shall never compete you in anything.

How to love Prophet Muhammad SAW:

Praise to be Allah SWT,
Loving the Prophet Muhammad SAW is a remarkable path to accomplish virtues and excellence. Loving him Prophet Muhammad SAW is a part of Iman (faith). Without the Prophet Muhammad SAW we would not know about our faith. Thus loving the Prophet Muhammad SAW is essential to achieving excellence and the completion of faith. As mentioned in the Hadith:

" None of you have truly believe until I am more beloved to him than gu father, his son and all of humankind."
Our scholars differ on whether love for the Prophet ja an inherently natural disposition for every believer or is it by choice. Loving the Prophet Muhammad SAW at an elementary degree can naturally blossom just by embracing faith. Commenting on this Hadith, Imam Abu Sulaiman Al- Khattabiy views that it is love by choice. In others word's, it has to be developed and nurtured through knowledge about his life, such as hua character z sacrifices and teachings.
Foe most people, it is natural to love our families, friends, and even ourselves. However, choosing to love the Prophet Muhammad SAW profoundly and above all others, by deeply knowing him, is a conscious decision that signifies that completion of our faith. Abdullah ibn Hisham RA reported:
"We were with the Prophet Muhammad SAW and he was holding the hand of Umar ibn al-Khattab. Umar said to hi, "O Prophet Muhammad SAW, you are more beloved to me than everything expect my own self " The prophet Muhammad SAW replied, "No , by the one in whose hand is my soul (Allah SWT) not until I am more beloved to you than your own self." The Prophet Muhammad SAW responded,Now O Umar ( you have complete faith)".
Hazrat Umar RA is well known today as one of the closest companions oc the Prophet Muhammad SAW. Choosing to love the Prophet Muhammad SAW does not mean it is a forced love. Love, a matter of the heart, cannot be forced. But it can be discovered and nurtured by knowing the reality of the Prophet Muhammad SAW just as in the example of Sayyiduna Umar ibn al-Khattab RA. He us known to be very concerned and protective of the Prophet Muhammad SAW. Towards the end of his life, Umar RA requested to be buried next to his beloved:
" And say to ( Hazrat Aishah RA Umar bin Al- Khattab asks the permission to the buried with his two companions ( i.e Prophet Muhammad SAW,Abu Bakar RA).
In this article we will explore some significant ways to express and nurture our love for the Prophet Muhammad SAW. Here are four ways:

1. Looking up to Prophet Muhammad SAW as the perfect role model:

It is part of human nature to emulate others in their behaviors, interests and moral values, especially those we admire and love. When a person experiences profound love for another, it will naturally cause the person to show deep affection for what us dear to the beloved. People would cross the seas just to please and reach what they love.
The Prophet's excellent character is a from if beauty that captured the hearts if many. Furthermore, Allah declares himself the Prophet Muhammad SAW status as being the best example.
" Indeed, in the Messenger of Allah SWT specifically mentions the Prophet Muhammad SAW to be the believers best example, for whoever has Hope in Allah SWT and the last day, and remembers Allah SWT often".
In this universe, Allah SWT specifically mentions the Prophet Muhammad SAW to be believers best example, this includes all aspects of the Prophet's life, from.ita sayings and actions."
Other than his physical aspect, he is also the perfect example for spiritual excellence. Furthermore, we may also understand from the verse above that the Prophet Muhammad SAW showed us the best way if life, which means it benefit the believers both in This world and in the Hereafter.
By putting the prophet Muhammad SAW as our role model, we are constantly reminded and thinking about the Prophet SAW. Hua preferences and admiration will na turally become dearer to us.

2. Following Prophet Muhammad's SAW beautiful footsteps:

With the Prophet Muhammad SAW as our role model, it typically becomes easier to follow in his footsteps. Love is not something to be merely declared but to show and express through actions. A sincere love will bear the fruition if emulation.Likewise by emulating our love will blossom.
" Whoever enlivens my Sunnah, then he has loved me and whoever loves me shall be with me in paradise."
Everything is perfect in paradise but there are different degrees of heavens in the hereafter. Some of us may be blessed with the lower heavens and some of us may be adorned with the company of Prophet Muhammad SAW in the highest of heavens.
On top of having such excellent merit in the Hereafter, following the Prophet Muhammad SAW also bears tremendous benefit for us in this world. He was sent to perfect the moral values of humankind.

3. Sending our peace and blessings upon Prophet Muhammad SAW:

Love urges us to think of the beloved frequently and yearn to be in the beloved's company. Similarly, our love for the Prophet Muhammad SAW will help us to constantly utter words of remembrance for the Prophet Muhammad SAW. Likewise, sending peace and blessings will increase our love for the Prophet Muhammad SAW. Through our selawat, we can hope to be in his company in the Hereafter,as mentioned in a Hadith:
" The closest of people to me on the day of resurrection are those who sent the most blessings upon me."
If the path, to follow and emulate him becomes difficult, scholars have advised us to increase in our selawat upon the Prophet Muhammad SAW. This can help relieve us of our hardships and guide us in the path to continue pursuing our love for the Prophet Muhammad SAW.
The virtues of sending our selawat upon the Prophet Muhammad SAW are so many that the Syrian scholar, shiekh Surajyddin Al- Husayni listed around 31 merits.

4. Reading about our beloved Prophet Muhammad SAW:

Love transcends, reason, but that does not mean we should entirely deny the role of reason. As the Malay saying goes" Tak kenal maka cinta" ( to know is to love). Which is why it is equally important to develop our love based on sound knowledge. After all, the heart can waver. So, knowledge is important.
Here are some books that may help us in knowing the Prophet Muhammad SAW:
  1.     Ash- Shamail al- Muhammadiyya, the portrait of the Prophet Muhammad SAW by Iman at- Tirmidzi.
  2. Muhammad SAW the best creation , a glimpse  of his blessed life by Sayyid Muhammad ibn Alawi al-Maliki al-Hassani.
  3. Proofs of Prophethood by Shaykh Abdel Haleem Mahmood.
Although we have yet to meet the prophet Muhammad SAW it is normal to live someone we have yet to physically meet in person. Ana's bin Malik R.A reported that the Prophet Muhammad said:
' I wish we could meet out brothers ". The companions asked, " Are we not your brothers O Prophet Muhammad SAW "? The Prophet Muhammad SAW said: You are my companions. Our brother's are those who have yet to come.

Concluion:

Love for Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is a central aspect of a Muslim's faith. It is not just emotional admiration but a deep spiritual bond rooted in reverence, obedience, and emulation. His life embodies the highest moral standards, compassion, justice, humility, and mercy — making him the perfect example for humanity.

This love is expressed by:

Following his Sunnah (way of life)
Sending peace and blessings upon him (Salawat)
Defending his honor respectfully
Striving to embody his character in daily life
The Prophet (SAW) said, “None of you will have faith till he loves me more than his father, his children and all mankind.” (Bukhari)Thus, true love for the Prophet (SAW) is transformative — it elevates a person’s character, strengthens their connection with Allah, and brings inner peace. It is a love that lives in the heart, is shown in actions, and endures forever.
